The island an Overseas Territory of the United Kingdom located in the South Atlantic approximately 4,000 miles from the UK. The island’s population is around 4,500 and it has a typical small island economy with a high import dependency, a narrow economic base and a large public sector

The Role
The 22-bed General Hospital in the capital, Jamestown, covers all areas of acute medical and surgical care. Responsible for out-patient clinics at various locations every week you will cover various clinical needs for adults and children, including diabetes, hypertension and cardio-pulmonary disease which are highly prevalent on the island.
Taking care of in-patients, you will be on the primary on-call rota (approximately 1 in 4) in the triage and attendance of urgent care and emergencies. There will be on-call cover from specialist colleagues in anaesthetics/intensive care, general surgery, and obstetrics/gynaecology. You will also attend clinical emergencies and urgent care duties, incident management, outbreak response and other healthcare emergencies. This role reports into the Chief Medical Officer.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
Running weekly out-patient clinics at various locations you will cover a range of clinical needs including diabetes, hypertension and cardio-pulmonary disease which are prevalent on the island. Actively involved in preventive care and lifestyle management you will serve as a clinical champion for preventive service development.
With support from overseas specialists and using local therapeutic guidelines and protocols, you will also consult paediatrics, ENT and ophthalmology patients. You will take care of in-patients as well as being on the primary on-call rota, supported by on-call cover from specialist colleagues in anaesthetics/ intensive care, general surgery and obstetrics/gynaecology.
You will participate in health promotion and preventative care programmes, staff training, incident management, outbreak response and other healthcare emergencies.
Essential Requirements
Full GMC registration if from the UK
If outside the UK, you must be licensed and able to practice in your country of recruitment and also be on the UK GMC GP register or Specialist Register for Internal Medicine or equivalent registration authority in your country of practice.
If you are within 6 months of CCT you may be considered, based on experience.
