The Role
An exciting opportunity is available for a Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist in the beautiful Midwest Region.
- Provide clinical advice, consultation, liaison and support to health care professionals, other providers and agencies, and to carers and consumers throughout the Midwest Health Service region.
- Examine, assess, diagnose and treat child and adolescent patients referred to the Midwest MH&CADS and support nurses, health workers and carers in the provision of mental health care.
- Provide assessment, review, consultation and support in clinical matters via outreach and video conferencing across the Midwest region.
Requirements
Applicants should be registered (or eligible for registration) as a specialist with the Medical Board of Australia and be a Fellow of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists (FRANZCP) or equivalent as an overseas trained specialist who has completed their training in either the UK, Ireland, Canada, USA (ABPN certified) or New Zealand.
The Hospital
The facility is a 100 bed hospital, currently undergoing redevelopment including significant expansion of the emergency department and provision for an Integrated Mental Health Unit and Intensive Care/High Dependency Unit. It is a referral centre for the entire region with a very busy Emergency Department and Medical Department. Other towns in the region have small hospitals with service provided by GPs in private practice.
The Midwest Mental Health and Community Alcohol and Drug Service (Midwest MH&CADS) provides multidisciplinary assessment, treatment and advice to consumers in the Midwest region with moderate to severe mental health and/or drug and alcohol issues. It also provides support to carers, local health services and other agencies that work with people experiencing mental health and/or drug and alcohol issues. The service is currently undergoing a comprehensive reform process impacting all levels of service delivery.

Geraldton is situated in the Midwest Region of the State and is an attractive seaside community 260m (420km) north of the State's capital, Perth. It’s a 45 minute flight from Perth. There’s some beautiful sights along the way; pristine beaches, national parks and carpets of wildflowers.
