Opportunity

As a Consultant/Specialist in General Adult Psychiatry you'll provide a consultant medical service in Cork Mental Health Service and be responsible for the care and treatment of patients, ensuring mechanisms for the co-ordination of the care with the multidisciplinary team and between the team and other health and social care agencies are established and maintained.

Duration - 12-24 month contract with a view to go permanent.

You'll also ensure that the service will be community-orientated, with treatment provided in the main range of community facilities available, and within the level of resources allocated, providing a service with the multidisciplinary team for patients referred for specialist treatment.  As a senior member of staff you will lead and engage in the provision of a range of community-based assessment and treatment programmes including, out-patients clinics, day hospital services, community services, residential centres, and any service deemed necessary in the future in line with evidence-based practice and National Clinical Programme for Dual Diagnosis.

Within this area's Mental Health Services provides an extensive range of services to a population of approximately 542,196. The general adult sectors offer a diverse range of services including comprehensive acute inpatient care which is augmented by a liaison team based on the 7-day service model. Multidisciplinary care is provided and delivered through Community Mental Health Teams, Day Hospitals, Day Centres, and Home Based Treatment Team. The Rehabilitation Teams include Psychiatry of Later Life and Assertive Outreach where emphasis is on person-centred care, patient safety, and quality outcome.

  • Basic Salary scale between € 217,325- € 261,051 in accordance with the HSE 2023 Consultant contract

Essential Criteria

  • Specialist Registration with the Irish Medical Council or eligibility for Specialist Registration
  • UK and EEA candidates with Specialist Registration in Psychiatry can apply
  • 5 - 10 years' relevant experience post-graduation
  • Possesses a detailed knowledge and understanding of the relevant specialist domain: Intellectual Disabilities

Location: Cork
