Job title: Consultant in General (GIM) & Respiratory Medicine , Permanent, Location: Mackay, Queensland

TOTAL ESTIMATED REMUNERATION $411,266 - $514,452

 

The Department of Medicine is a vibrant, collaborative, and supportive workplace.

Working as a Consultant split across the GIM & Respiratory department you will be part of a team comprising of physicians with different subspecialties (including endocrinology, respiratory, infectious disease, oncology, neurology, nephrology, acute medicine etc) working in close partnership with cardiology (who provide 24/7 Primary PCI service), emergency medicine (FACEM lead) and intensive care (CICM led).

As a dual trained Consultant, your role will be comprised of 0.5FTE General Medicine and 0.5FTE sub-specialty duties on an alternating fortnightly basis.

  • The General Medicine role will include rotating through the Acute Assessment Unit and General Medicine Teams as well as participating in the on-call and weekend roster.
  • •The Respiratory Physician role will involve inpatient consultation of medical patients, outpatient specialty clinics, and relevant procedural lists (bronchoscopy etc).

You will work closely with 2 other respiratory physicians a registrar and several respiratory nurses. you will get to work with a clinical case mix that is broad, challenging and very professionally satisfying.

The position is responsible for assisting the Director in provision of high-quality clinical services as part of the Department of Medicine, education of Medical Staff and Students, Allied Health, interested Community Groups and Nursing Staff.

The position will involve active participation in patient safety, audit, research, and service planning activities. The staff Specialist will be supported by a full team of junior doctors including BPTs, PHOs, RMOs and Interns. There is currently one Advanced Trainee in General Medicine, Oncology and Rehabilitation, with space to add one more General Medicine Advanced Trainee

Hospital information

Your area of work is a 236 bed regional hospital that services 10 rural hospitals and multi-purpose health facilities across the Mackay Isaac Whitsunday region. A health board that is embarking on an exciting period of growth with a $250m redevelopment of the base hospital to provide an additional 112 inpatient beds and an expansion of outpatient and support services. Significant upgrades are also underway at rural hospitals in Bowen, Moranbah, Proserpine and Clermont. Clinicians enjoy a challenging and rewarding clinical casemix that includes busy inpatient and outpatient general medicine, paediatrics, surgery, orthopaedics, obstetrics & gynaecology and mental health services. These core inpatient services are well integrated with active emergency medicine, anaesthetic and intensive care departments and supported by a wide range of allied health services.

Specialty services are provided by tertiary hospitals in Townsville and Brisbane, including a strong undergraduate teaching affiliation with James Cook University

Requirements to apply:

  • Registration with the Medical Board of Australia with Specialist registration in General Medicine or Subspecialty or appropriate registration with the Medical Board of Australia to practise in the specialist position or equivalent as an overseas trained specialist who has completed their training in either the UK, Ireland, Canada, USA or New Zealand.
