An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Operating Department Practitioner (ODP) to join the Gibraltar Health Authority on a 6-month contract, commencing from 30 August 2026. The Role

We are seeking a skilled and highly motivated Operating Department Practitioner to support the theatre team within St Bernard's Hospital. The successful candidate will work across a range of surgical specialties and play a key role in delivering safe, high-quality perioperative care.

This role includes participation in the on-call rota and requires an experienced scrub practitioner with exposure to a broad range of procedures, including orthopaedic surgery.

Key Responsibilities

  • Participate as a scrub practitioner within the operating theatre team.
  • Assist surgeons and anaesthetists during surgical procedures.
  • Prepare operating suites and equipment to ensure safe surgical practice.
  • Carry out safety checks in accordance with departmental policies.
  • Participate in the departmental standby/on-call rota.
  • Maintain high standards of patient care, infection control, and clinical governance.
  • Support service development, audits, and evidence-based practice initiatives.

Essential Requirements

  • Registered Operating Department Practitioner or Registered Nurse.
  • Current HCPC or NMC registration.
  • Minimum of 2 years' post-qualification experience within surgical practice.
  • Proven experience as a scrub practitioner.
  • Experience across a variety of theatre specialities, including orthopaedics.
  • Strong organisational and communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team.

Package

  • Salary: £31,897 - £42,147 per annum (depending on NHS reckonable service).
  • Full-time position, 40 hours per week.
  • Return economy flights from the UK to Gibraltar reimbursed (including one checked luggage item).
  • Accommodation provided.
