Head Medical is seeking a Clinical Lead – Obstetrics & Gynaecology to join a progressive Women’s and Children’s Service in North West Tasmania. This is a unique opportunity to combine clinical practice with strategic leadership in a highly supportive and well-connected team.

The Role
The department delivers comprehensive Obstetrics & Gynaecology services across the North West region, including:

Level 4 maternity and neonatal services
-
Approximately 1,000 births annually

Outreach clinics across regional and remote communities
-
Accredited RANZCOG training with strong registrar and junior doctor support
The service is well-supported by experienced midwives, multidisciplinary teams, and a strong teaching culture, offering an excellent environment for both clinical practice and leadership development.
This is a Senior leadership position combining clinical excellence with strategic input across the Women’s and Children’s Service. You will work closely with the Clinical Director to support the delivery, development, and continuous improvement of Obstetrics & Gynaecology services.
Key responsibilities include:

Providing high-quality specialist O&G care across inpatient and outpatient settings

Leading and supporting a multidisciplinary team to ensure safe, efficient patient care

Contributing to service planning, workforce management, and clinical governance
-
Supporting education, training, and supervision of junior doctors and medical students
-
Participating in outreach services and the on-call roster (approximately 1:5)
Registration Requirements

Specialist registration (or eligibility) with the Medical Board of Australia in Obstetrics & Gynaecology

Be a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (FRANZCOG), or
-
An overseas-trained specialist with equivalent qualifications

(Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) – UK,

Certificate of Satisfactory Completion of Specialist Training (CSCST) – Ireland,

Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (RCPSC) – Canada,

American Board of Medical Specialties (ABMS/ABOG for O&G) – USA, or

Vocational Registration – New Zealand)
