About the Job

Our hospital group client operates six hospitals in the Grey Bruce region of Ontario, serving a population of over 170,000. The Owen Sound facility is a Level 2 regional referral centre, offering a full range of specialty services through the Departments of Anaesthesia, Medical Imaging, Obstetrics/Gynaecology, Oncology, Hospitalist Medicine, Internal Medicine, Critical Care, Pathology, Paediatrics, Psychiatry and Surgery (ENT, General/Thoracic Surgery, Ophthalmology, Orthopaedics, Urology).

Thriving rural hospitals are also located in Lion’s Head, Markdale, Meaford, Southampton and Wiarton, servicing a range of ambulatory, in-patient and emergency needs. Another five hospitals located within the region also refer to our specialists.

Facilities

With annual ER volumes of over 90,000 visits across the hospital system, 24-hour labs, excellent specialty back-up, and comprehensive diagnostic imaging (CT, MRI, PACS capability, video-EEG), their modern facilities are very well equipped. 

Service Delivery

We are seeking two full-time Otolaryngologists to join their team. Specialist practices include outpatient consultations/follow-up, inpatient care and acute on-call service (acute services based at the Owen Sound).

The ENT surgeons provide comprehensive Otolaryngology care, including diagnosis, treatment, and surgery for a wide range of ear, nose and throat conditions. Specialists provide collaborative care with other healthcare professionals and contribute to quality improvement initiatives within their scope of practice. The group provides opportunities for physicians to participate in medical education, teaching and mentoring residents and medical students and to pursue their research interests through the Office of Research.

Resources

  • Operating Room and Ambulatory Care time based at Owen Sound and/or Meaford facilities as part of the Division of Otolaryngology; hospital resources are shared equally amongst the group.
  • Private office practice locations available in several communities, per physician preference. Explore the Ministry of Health’s Northern Rural Recruitment Retention Initiative Grants for full-time physicians serving rural communities with comprehensive practices. This employer`s five rural communities qualify for these grants.
  • Additional OR and/or Ambulatory Care blocks can be provided at neighbouring regional hospitals within Grey and Bruce counties (optional).

Qualifications

Applicants must hold either:

  • FRCPC in ENT, American Board Certification, Certificate of Completion of Specialist Training (CCT) from the UK, or Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (FRACS)
  • Where applicable, eligibility to sit the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (RCPSC) examination in ENT within 3 years of starting practice in Canada 
  • Candidates must hold, or be eligible for, independent licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario (CPSO)
  • Note: American Board Certified candidates are eligible for an independent practice license in Ontario from the outset. Ask for more information about expedited licensing pathways.

Individuals with special interest in Facial Plastics and Reconstructive including skin cancer treatment are welcomed, but not essential.

Compensation

Fee-for-Service Billings through the Ontario Hospital Insurance Plan (OHIP); see Schedule of Medical Benefits of Ontario for information, plus On-Call Coverage stipends.  

Annual income typically $350,000 to $500,000 Canadian Dollars (varied, based on clinical volumes and related consultations/procedures).
