Excellent new Emergency Medicine Consultant opportunities are now available with our hospital group client in Ontario. Located just 2.5 hours north of Toronto in Ontario’s scenic Grey Bruce region, these positions offer Emergency Medicine physicians the opportunity to practice within a collaborative regional health system while enjoying an exceptional quality of life.

Serving a population of more than 170,000 residents and over 2 million short-stay visitors annually, the group operates six hospitals across Grey and Bruce counties providing emergency, acute, ambulatory, and specialty care within an integrated regional network.

Practice Environment
Emergency Physicians practice across diverse settings, from a regional referral centre to rural community hospitals. Regardless of hospital site, physicians benefit from shared clinical standards, strong collaboration, and established consultation pathways across the local health system.

Physicians have access to a broad range of specialist services and hospital-based resources across the region, including surgical services, internal medicine, neurology, critical care, obstetrics and gynaecology, paediatrics, psychiatry, anaesthesia, oncology, comprehensive diagnostic imaging, and laboratory services.

Opportunity

The group are now recruiting full-time Emergency Medicine Specialists to join their teams across the region. The hospitals are in the communities of Owen Sound, Markdale, Meaford, Southampton, Wiarton and Lion’s Head. 

Opportunities exist across multiple sites within the health system, allowing physicians to build a sustainable, community focused practice within a supportive and collaborative regional network.

The employer is a strong supporter of Medical Education. They accept medical students and residents from all Ontario medical schools, as well as national and international learners, as well as partner with McMaster University’s Rural Family Medicine Residency Program with seven embedded family medicine residents annually.

Physicians working with this group also have the opportunity participate in Quality Improvement Initiatives, Advanced Simulation Training, Physician Leadership Development, and rural-based Research, based on their interests.

Qualifications

Applicants must hold either:

  • FRCPC in Emergency Medicine, CCFP(EM), American Board Certification (ABEM), Certificate of Completion of Specialist Training (CCT) from the UK, or Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Emergency Medicine (FACEM)
  • Where applicable, eligibility to sit the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (RCPSC) examination in Emergency Medicine within 3 years of starting practice in Canada 
  • Candidates must hold, or be eligible for, independent licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario (CPSO)
  • Note: American Board Certified candidates are eligible for an independent practice license in Ontario from the outset. Ask for more information about expedited licensing pathways.

Compensation, Incentives and Supports

  • Annual compensation $400,000 to $600,000 Canadian Dollars depending on hours worked 
  • Emergency Department Alternate Funding Agreement compensation model includes competitive compensation including hourly stipend ($200 to $260 per hour) plus percentage of fee for service billings (OHIP)
  • Local rural emergency medicine incentive funding also applicable across the hospitals
  • Physicians practicing in eligible communities may qualify for the Northern and Rural Recruitment and Retention Initiative (NRRRI) grants
  • Relocation assistance and recruitment incentives available for permanent hires
  • Immigration support provided
