Hospital Information

We are seeking a motivated and competent Senior House Officer (SHO) to join the General Medicine team at this university hospital based in South-East Ireland. As the appointed SHO, you will be involved in the day-to-day clinical management of patients, working under the supervision of registrars and consultants, and will gain hands-on experience across a wide range of medical conditions.

  • The salary scale for the post is :€53,666 - €56,305 - €60,296 - €62,925 - €68,209 - €70,836 - €73,399

  • Additional remuneration for on-call duties and overtime as applicable depending on rota
  • 30 days annual leave
  • 10 public holidays
  • Hours: 37 hours per week, plus on-call supplements
  • The current vacancy available is temporary (6 months) and whole time. 
  • The post is pensionable. A panel may be created from which permanent and specified purpose vacancies of full or part time duration may be filled. The tenure of these posts will be indicated at “expression of interest” stage.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assess and manage patients admitted to the general medical wards, emergency unit, and outpatient department.

  • Take detailed patient histories and perform physical examinations.

  • Order and interpret routine investigations (labs, imaging, etc.).

  • Initiate and monitor treatment plans under supervision.

  • Participate in ward rounds, handovers, and clinical meetings.

  • Provide emergency care under supervision as required.

  • Maintain accurate medical records and documentation.

  • Communicate effectively with patients, families, and healthcare teams.

  • Assist in teaching and mentoring junior staff and medical students.

  • Be on-call as per roster and respond to clinical emergencies.

  • Co-operate with investigations, enquiries or audit relating to the provision of health services;

Requirements to Apply

  • Full registration in place with the Irish Medical Council (IMC) 

  • Must have not worked for HSE Ireland in the past 36 months?

  • Must not have applied directly to HSE for any job opportunities?

  • A minimum of 24 months post-internship clinical experience is required.

  • Have an IELTS / OET Certificate? If yes, please confirm the pass rate

  • Have a current International Police Certificate

  • Able to take up the appointment by 14th of July 2025

Desirable.

  • Prior experience working in an Irish or UK healthcare setting.

  • Participation in quality improvement or patient safety initiatives.
