Insourcing Team - Anaesthetics, Scrub, Recovery, Day Surgery Nursing and Healthcare Support Workers Required!
Role Overview
We are increasing our insourcing activity and looking for staff to supply an extra team. The insourcing theatre team will provide safe, efficient and patient-centred perioperative support to increase theatre capacity and help deliver planned surgical activity. The team will work as part of the wider multidisciplinary theatre service, supporting patients before, during and immediately after procedures across anaesthetics, scrub, circulating, recovery, day surgery nursing and theatre support functions.
Purpose of the Team
- Support additional theatre lists for long waiting patients delivered through an insourcing model. Specialties will be ENT, Urology, Orthopaedics, some General and OMFS.
- Provide high-quality perioperative and day surgery care across anaesthetic, scrub, recovery and admission/discharge areas.
- Ensure safe patient flow from admission/preparation through procedure, recovery and discharge or transfer.
- Work collaboratively with surgeons, anaesthetists, theatre coordinators, ward teams and hospital management.
- Maintain compliance with local policies, professional standards, infection prevention requirements and clinical governance procedures.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
- Deliver safe, effective and compassionate perioperative care in line with professional registration, competency and local governance requirements.
- Prepare theatre areas, equipment, consumables, instrumentation and documentation before each list.
- Support World Health Organization surgical safety checklist processes and accurate handovers.
- Maintain infection prevention standards, aseptic technique, sharps safety and safe disposal of clinical waste.
- Promote efficient list flow, safe theatre turnaround and effective communication throughout the patient pathway.
- Identify, report and escalate clinical risks, incidents, equipment issues and staffing concerns.
- Maintain accurate records and contribute to audit, quality improvement and service evaluation where required.
- Shift patterns are Monday to Friday.
Qualifications and Experience
- Registered Practitioners: current NMC or HCPC registration, depending on role.
- Evidence of relevant perioperative or day surgery experience in anaesthetics, scrub, recovery, admissions, discharge or a combined theatre/day surgery role.
- Healthcare Support Workers: previous experience in theatres, sterile services, is essential.
- Up-to-date mandatory training, including basic life support, infection prevention, manual handling, information governance and safeguarding.
- Ability to work within local policies, standard operating procedures and professional codes of conduct.
- PVG, Disclosure and occupational health clearance as required for the clinical setting.

Governance and Compliance
- All team members must complete local induction before undertaking clinical duties.

- Clinical incidents, near misses and concerns must be reported through agreed local reporting procedures.
- The team must follow local infection prevention, medicines management, documentation, consent, safeguarding and health and safety policies.
- Competency records, training evidence and professional registration checks should be verified before deployment.
