Head Medical are seeking post-foundation doctors for exciting 12-month General Medicine positions in the Hawke’s Bay region of New Zealand.
These roles are ideal for doctors looking to broaden their clinical experience within a busy, well-supported medical service. Relief work provides variety across General Medicine and a range of medical subspecialties, giving you the opportunity to experience different clinical areas, presentations and teams while developing your acute medical skills.
- 12-month position commencing February 2027

- Salary: NZ$105,029 – NZ$134,830, depending on experience
The Role
You will be based in a modern 400-bed accredited secondary hospital, one of New Zealand’s largest provincial hospitals, providing acute and elective care to a population of more than 162,000. The General Medicine service is a large and supportive department, with exposure across Acute Medicine, Gastroenterology, Nephrology, Respiratory, Geriatrics, Oncology and Cardiology.
As part of the General Medicine service, you will work across General Medicine and a variety of medical subspecialties according to service requirements. This provides excellent variety and the opportunity to broaden your clinical experience while working alongside experienced consultants and registrars.
The department includes:
- 40 Physicians, 26 Registrars and 15 House Officers
- More than 8,000 admissions per year
- Four medical wards plus a 20-bed Acute Assessment Unit
Location
You will be based in Hastings, a vibrant coastal city on New Zealand’s North Island, with the option to live in either Hastings or nearby Napier.
