Head Medical is seeking experienced General Medicine doctors to join a highly supportive acute medical service in one of New Zealand’s most desirable coastal regions.

Applicants should have broad experience in General Medicine and be eligible for registration with the Medical Council of New Zealand via the competent authority pathway.
Ideal for doctors progressing at ST3–ST7 level (or equivalent), or experienced Specialty Doctors looking to further develop their clinical experience. Please note this is not a Consultant-level position.

- Broad exposure to acute General Medicine and inpatient ward-based care
- Strong consultant presence with daily clinical collaboration and support

- Salary NZD $152,694 – $222,476 (commensurate with experience)
The Hospital
Gisborne Hospital is a 100–115 bed secondary hospital providing comprehensive medical and surgical services to the East Coast region of New Zealand.
The General Medicine service is known for:

Who we are looking for
We are seeking experienced General Medicine doctors ready to take the next step in a well-supported hospital environment.
Ideal candidates will have:
- Significant post-graduate experience in General Medicine or Internal Medicine
- Experience in acute hospital settings (wards, admissions, acute take)
- Confidence managing undifferentiated medical patients with consultant support
- Strong communication and team-based working skills
- Interest in teaching, clinical development, and service improvement
- Eligibility for Medical Council of New Zealand registration via the Competent Authority pathway
This role would suit doctors working at Registrar, SAS or equivalent level who are seeking a long-term relocation and a more balanced approach to hospital medicine.
