Registered Nurse – Adult Inpatient Mental Health

Grade 3–4 (Band 5 UK equivalent) South Tasmania

We’re looking for experienced Registered Nurses to join our adult inpatient mental health services in South Tasmania. This is an opportunity to become part of a supportive multidisciplinary team delivering high-quality, recovery-focused care to adults at an important point in their journey.

About the role

As a Registered Nurse, you’ll provide person-centred, recovery-oriented and trauma-informed care to consumers within an acute adult inpatient environment.

Working alongside experienced nurses, clinicians and other health professionals, you’ll play an important role in assessment, treatment, therapeutic engagement and ongoing recovery.

Your day-to-day work will include:

  • Providing safe, high-quality nursing care based on current best practice.
  • Completing comprehensive biopsychosocial assessments and developing care in partnership with consumers and the multidisciplinary team.
  • Building positive therapeutic relationships with consumers and supporting their recovery.
  • Monitoring and reviewing mental state, clinical presentation and responses to treatment.
  • Participating in therapeutic interventions and psychotherapeutic work using a range of appropriate approaches and techniques.
  • Working closely with the multidisciplinary team to achieve positive outcomes for consumers.
  • Building effective relationships with hospital, community mental health, primary health and community-sector partners.
  • Contributing to the development and improvement of nursing practices, policies and models of care.
  • Maintaining professional standards and working in accordance with relevant legislation, policies, clinical guidelines and the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia standards.

What we’re looking for

We’re keen to hear from Registered Nurses with a minimum of two years’ experience in an acute adult inpatient or recovery setting.

You’ll ideally bring:

  • Current registration as a Registered Nurse with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia (NMBA).
  • At least 2 years of relevant acute adult inpatient or recovery experience.
  • Strong clinical assessment and communication skills.
  • A genuine commitment to person-centred, recovery-oriented and trauma-informed care.
  • The ability to build trusting therapeutic relationships.
  • Confidence working as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • A commitment to professional development, clinical excellence and continuous improvement.
  • The resilience, empathy and professionalism needed to support people experiencing mental health challenges.
