As a Clinical Nurse Specialist – Mental Health, Acute Paediatric Unit, you’ll work alongside the Nurse Unit Manager, Consultant Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist and wider multidisciplinary team to provide person-centred, recovery-oriented and trauma-informed care.
About the role
You’ll provide specialist mental health nursing care to paediatric consumers admitted to the unit, supporting children and young people experiencing acute mental health challenges.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Providing comprehensive biopsychosocial assessments and acute inpatient mental health care coordination.
- Building therapeutic relationships with children, young people and their families and carers.
- Monitoring and reviewing mental state and responses to treatment.
- Providing psychotherapeutic interventions using a range of appropriate modalities and techniques.
- Working collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team, with a strong focus on family and carer engagement.
- Delivering trauma-informed, person-centred and recovery-oriented care in line with relevant standards, legislation, policies and professional competencies.
- Providing clinical leadership, knowledge and expertise to promote high standards of care and best practice.
- Supporting the Nurse Unit Manager and Consultant Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist with the coordination and management of resources as required.
- Contributing to a positive, collaborative and supportive clinical environment.
About you
You’re an experienced and compassionate Registered Nurse who brings strong clinical skills, sound professional judgement and a genuine commitment to improving mental health outcomes for children and young people.
You’ll have:
- Registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia as a Registered Nurse.
- Current Working with Children Registration.
- Experience and/or training in paediatric mental health.
- A commitment to trauma-informed, family-focused and evidence-based care.
- Strong communication and multidisciplinary teamwork skills.
Desirable:
- Relevant postgraduate qualifications, or a commitment to working towards them.
- Previous experience in a clinical leadership role.
