Here at Head Medical, we are actively working with a major clinical and specialist referral centre for southwest Victoria, who are seeking the appointment of a Consultant Cardiologist
If you have cardiology training, experience, and skills to confidently practice in a regional setting, this could be the ideal role for you!
The Specialist Cardiologist position primarily focuses on the provision of clinical services. However, the incumbent will have the opportunity to be involved in academic and teaching activities in close association with Deakin University academic and teaching staff.
Your key accountabilities will be:
- Assume clinical responsibility for patients under direct care Ward rounds will be conducted as needed, generally on a daily basis.
- Conduct public outpatient clinics.
- Supervise the clinical care provided by Registrars/Hospital Medical Officers involved in the care of cardiology patients.
- Review existing practices and promote change either based on evidence or if other change is required.
- Ensure that patients/families are given adequate information upon which to base treatment decisions and follow-up.
- Develop effective communication with and be receptive to patient, relative and peer groups.
- Support multi-disciplinary teamwork.
- Provide advice to and liaise with staff from other units as required. Quality and Clinical Review Activities:
- Participate in the Unit quality activities program, including audit activities, review of deaths and analysis of relevant clinical and key performance indicators (KPls)
- Attend Unit meetings where necessary.
- Assist in developing and implementing clinical pathways where appropriate.
- Assist in developing protocols and guidelines where required.
- Assist in resolving patient and relative complaints. Academic/Teaching: • Comply with personal continuing educational activities as outlined by RACP, and/or other relevant professional bodies.

Essential Criteria
- Applicants should be registered (or eligible for registration) as a specialist with the Medical Board of Australia and be a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (FRACP) or equivalent as an overseas trained specialist who has completed their training in either the UK, Ireland, Canada, USA or New Zealand.
