We are looking for an experienced Anatomic Pathologist to join our team based at Auckland. This is an excellent opportunity to work with NZ’s largest and highly specialised community based laboratory service.
In this role, you will be working between 40 and 50 hours per week. However, the actual hours of work will be negotiated with the Clinical Lead during the interview stage. You will work rostered hours to meet the requirements of the service as needed. On call may be required but is uncommon.
Anatomic Pathology Service (APS) provides services to approximately 4,000 private specialists, private surgical hospitals and general practitioners with up to 500 histology specimens received per day, and a further 15-20 for non-gynaecological cytology.
The specimens cover a wide range of subspecialties in the areas of skin, gastroenterological, gynaecological, breast, head and neck, respiratory and urological pathology. This service also covers approximately one third of the national cervical screening programme. Gynecologic cytology is an option for this position but not obligatory. This role does not involve autopsies, which are under the auspices of the National Forensic Pathology Service.
APS processes a large volume of skin samples and is an ideal environment for candidates who have an interest or expertise in dermatopathology. We regularly train candidates, with excellent success rate thus far, in preparation for advanced dermatopathology certification including the European examination and the Australasian College- the latter only when available. Specialization in any area of work here however is encouraged since the volume allows people to narrow their scope to mutually agreed combinations of organ systems.
Important Skills
As the ideal candidate for this role you will be a trained Anatomical Pathologist and will either have or be eligible for vocational registration with Medical Council of New Zealand.
Please note, if you are not currently registered in New Zealand and have overseas medical qualifications, you will be required to provide source verification of your qualifications for your registration application.
Our Organisation
APS serves the community general practice and private medical / surgical specialist anatomical pathology for approximately 1.8 million people. We are a component of Health New Zealand, Auckland. The greater organization provides health and disability services to more than half a million people living in central Auckland, regional services for Northland and greater Auckland, and specialist national services for the whole of New Zealand. Our main inpatient and outpatient sites are located in central Auckland.
