About the Role
As a key member of our Anaesthesia team, you will play an essential role in delivering high-quality perioperative care across a range of surgical specialties. Working in a collaborative and well-respected team, you will contribute to both planned care and acute services, ensuring safe and effective patient outcomes.
You will become part of a dedicated team of 17 experienced and supportive SMO colleagues, six ANZCA basic trainees along with a highly competent surgical and ICU team, all committed to delivering excellence in patient care.
You will be working within a secondary care setting participating in the anaesthetic roster, covering planned care and acute theatre sessions, anaesthesia after-hours on call support, anaesthetic pre-assessment clinics and working as the duty anaesthetist.
About the Team/Service/Location
Nelson's Anaesthesia team consists of experienced consultants, ANZCA trainees, skilled anaesthetic technicians, and registered nurse assistants to the anaesthetist. We pride ourselves on our collegial environment, with strong interdisciplinary collaboration and a commitment to continuous learning and development.
Our Anaesthesia service provides support to the acute pain management service and other departments including Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Paediatrics, General Surgery, Orthopaedics, Urology, ENT, Ophthalmology, Dental, Mental Health, and the Emergency department. The service also offers anaesthesia for visiting subspecialty surgeons in Paediatric Surgery, Paediatric Orthopaedic Surgery, Plastics, and Maxillofacial Surgery.
These positions offer an excellent work / life balance and a broad case mix across surgical specialties, encompassing both elective and acute care, within a supportive and collegial environment.
About you
The ideal applicant will:
- Bring clinical expertise to a smaller provincial hospital and contribute to the care of patients in the Nelson Tasman region.
- Be eligible for an Annual Practicing Certificate with vocational scope in Anaesthesia with the Medical Council of New Zealand.
- Hold Fellowship of the Australian and New Zealand College of Anaesthetists (FANZCA), or equivalent overseas qualification from a comparable healthcare system.
- Work with others to promote a cohesive team culture of collaborative practice, openness and respect across disciplines.
