The Consultant - Addiction Psychiatry - Outpatient leads the multidisciplinary team to provide specialist alcohol and other drug services to patients of Next Step Services. Next Step Services includes outpatient services, integrated Community Alcohol and Drug Services, the Inpatient Withdrawal Unit, outpatient and medical support to young people through integrated Drug and Alcohol Youth Services, and the Community Program for Opioid Pharmacotherapy.
You will also provide leadership, orientation, training, supervision, and education, where relevant, for doctors in training, Health Service Medical Practitioners, and other health workers.
Requirements
Applicants should be registered (or eligible for registration) as a specialist with the Medical Board of Australia and be a Fellow of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists (FRANZCP) or equivalent as an overseas trained specialist who has completed their training in either the UK, Ireland, Canada, USA (ABPN certified) or New Zealand.
The Medical Board of Australia implemented a new expedited pathway to specialist registration in December 2024, eliminating the need for a specialist assessment with a specialist medical college for those with an accepted qualification in Psychiatry. The only accepted qualifications are MRCPsych and a Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) after August 2007. The standard Specialist Pathway is still available to those who aren’t eligible for the Expedited specialist pathway.
