Opportunity:
As a Consultant Radiologist in General Radiology within the HSE you'll be a senior clinical specialist responsible for providing expert imaging services across a range of modalities. Their role supports diagnosis, treatment planning, and patient management across multiple specialties, while also contributing to teaching, governance, and service development.
1. Diagnostic Imaging

Interpret and report on a wide range of imaging studies including X-rays, ultrasound, CT scans, MRI, and fluoroscopy.

Perform and supervise image-guided procedures (e.g., biopsies, drainages, joint injections), depending on training and service needs.

Provide timely and accurate diagnostic reports to support clinical decision-making across specialties.
2. Multidisciplinary Collaboration

Participate in multidisciplinary team (MDT) meetings, such as cancer, orthopaedic, or medical case conferences, offering expert radiological input.

Communicate findings effectively to referring clinicians and provide guidance on appropriate imaging follow-up or further investigations.
3. Clinical Governance and Quality

Contribute to audit activities, peer review of radiology reports, and discrepancy meetings to maintain high standards of care.

Promote radiation safety, adherence to IR(ME)R regulations, and appropriate justification of imaging requests.

Implement and monitor HSE guidelines and protocols for imaging and reporting.
4. Teaching and Supervision

Supervise and mentor radiology trainees, medical students, and junior doctors rotating through radiology.

Deliver formal teaching sessions and contribute to continuous professional development of peers and multidisciplinary colleagues.

Essential Criteria
- Registration as a specialist in the Specialist Division of the Register of Medical Practitioners maintained by the Medical Council in Ireland in the speciality of Radiology
- Or must be on or working towards Specialist Registration IMC
