Rural medicine the way it should be — meaningful work, real community, and time to care
This exciting opportunity will see you join a small but highly collaborative team currently comprising two General Practitioners, four Registered Nurses, a Health Coach focusing on lifestyle and preventative health, and a Health Improvement Practitioner supporting mental health care, alongside experienced administrative and operational staff. This structure allows you to deliver genuinely holistic, relationship-based care to the patients. Patient population reflects the rural community with a large elderly demographic balanced by farming families and younger patients from the surrounding districts. GPs typically see around twenty patients per day, allowing time for meaningful consultations and continuity of care. After-hours care is shared within the practice during the week and weekend cover is shared with the other local practice.

The natural environment is one of this region’s greatest assets. Within an hour you can reach Lakes Waitaki, Aviemore, and Benmore, popular for boating, fishing, and camping. A little further afield lies Aoraki / Mount Cook National Park, offering world-class alpine scenery, hiking, and skiing. Coastal beaches are also within easy reach, giving a balance of mountain and sea recreation. Situated halfway between Timaru and Oamaru, you will be close to secondary care facilities and larger centres such as Christchurch and Dunedin are within a few hours’ drive, making weekend city trips entirely feasible. The town itself is large enough to provide essential services yet small enough that you quickly feel part of the community and the pace of life is refreshingly manageable.
