About the Job

Head Medical is seeking resident doctors for rotational opportunities located in the beautiful Bay of Plenty region. Join a supportive team, and enjoy world-class beaches, relaxed coastal living, and a vibrant cultural community.

  • Live and work in one of New Zealand’s most beautiful coastal regions, with access to stunning beaches, forests, and marine life.
  • 12-month contract at a popular teaching hospital with a strong focus on Māori health and equitable mental health care.
  • Salary  $101,492- $137,020 NZD per annum (commensurate with experience)

The Role

Tauranga Hospital is a 359-bed regional hospital offering general and specialist medical services to a population of over 260,000 across the Bay of Plenty. As part of Te Whatu Ora (Health New Zealand), it works in partnership with Whakatāne Hospital (1 hour away), delivering high-quality care to diverse communities, including a significant Māori population (25.6%).

Rotations within the following are available:

  • Mental Health Service for Older People
  • Emergency Medicine
  • Orthopaedics
  • Surgical Relief (broad exposure across multiple surgical subspecialties through short rotations, providing excellent variety and an opportunity to further develop your surgical experience while supporting service delivery)

The Bay of Plenty is one of New Zealand’s most stunning coastal regions, known for its white sandy beaches, warm climate, and laid-back lifestyle. Whether you're based in Tauranga or Whakatāne, you will enjoy easy access to outdoor adventures - from surfing and paddleboarding to hiking and exploring native forests.
