The Role
Are you passionate about delivering recovery-focused, person-centred care to older adults? We are seeking a dedicated Old Age Psychiatrist to provide expert psychiatric services across a variety of settings, including the provision of ECT Services.
You will:

  • Teach and supervise psychiatry trainees and medical students.
  • Provide high level clinical leadership to multi-disciplinary teams and in particular:
    • Provide expert opinion and consultation on clinical work;
    • Participate in the development, implementation and ongoing review of the recovery plans for older persons using the services.
  • Liaise and collaborate with medical practitioners, consumers, carers, voluntary and government and non-government agencies concerned with patients care.
  • Participation in administration and clinical governance activities and the after-hours roster as required.

Requirements
Applicants should be registered (or eligible for registration) as a specialist with the Medical Board of Australia and be a Fellow of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists (FRANZCP) or equivalent as an overseas trained specialist who has completed their training in either the UK, Ireland, Canada, USA (ABPN certified) or New Zealand.

The Medical Board of Australia implemented a new expedited pathway to specialist registration in December 2024, eliminating the need for a specialist assessment with a specialist medical college for those with an accepted qualification in Psychiatry. The only accepted qualifications are MRCPsych and a Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) after 2007. Now is the time to apply for a new role.

The Location
Canberra is so much more than the national capital. With nature on the doorstep, a rich arts and culture scene and world-class dining and entertainment, it is one of Australia's best-kept secrets.

This is one of the safest cities in the world and in 2014 the OECD ranked Canberra as the most liveable city in the world.

Restaurants, cafes, bars, wineries and breweries serve produce from Canberra and the region. The food and wine industries compete with the best in the world.

Just a short drive from stunning coastlines, world-class ski-fields and big-city bustle when an escape is needed. There’s even a wildlife lodge at the National Zoo and Aquarium where you can stay overnight with the animals right outside your room.
