About the Job

Opportunity:

Working as a Consultant in Neurology (12-month FTC) - specialist interest in Dementia Care within the HSE (Ireland's public health system), you'll provide high-quality care to patients living with Dementia Care at this leading MASS service in Donegal.

MASS is a space where a comprehensive assessment is carried out by the multi-disciplinary team (MDT) where there are concerns about suspected dementia or a mild cognitive impairment. Importantly the MASS also provides post-diagnostic support and follow-up through (i) a specialist dementia post-diagnostic service and (ii) a brain health service; with a comprehensive care and support plan developed for each individual.

For an individual, their family and other supporters, dementia is a life-changing condition that requires responses to support the person across the illness trajectory. This is from the point of concern about their cognition, non-cognitive or behavioural symptoms, to receiving a diagnosis, through to early intervention and the provision of the right care at the right time. The projected increase in the number of people who will develop dementia in the future requires reform and further development of existing diagnostic and post-diagnostic services.

Dementia remains hugely undetected and under diagnosed in Ireland. However with the establishment of the MASS service the entry point to receiving the right care and treatment by the right service will be implemented by providing patients with a comprehensive assessment, diagnosis and post diagnostic supports both within the community and acute settings. As the appointed Consultant Neurologist, you will be the Clinical Lead for the MASS service.
