About the Job

Infectious Diseases and General Medical Physician

About the Role

We are looking for an Infectious Diseases Physician to join our Infection Services team who is looking for a challenge to develop a new service and extend our care out to our neighbouring district of Tairawhiti.

We have a well-established team of ID physicians, AMS Pharmacists, HIV nurses and Infection Prevention and Control Practitioners looking after the people of the Bay of Plenty across Tauranga and Whakatāne.  We have recognised that whilst we cater well for our district but other districts in our region have no such service.  We work closely with our neighbours to the south in Lakes and have a collegial relationship to support their singlehanded practitioner and IPC team.  With this role we want to develop a service that will reach out to Tairawhiti to our East to work with their IPC nurses and AMS pharmacist to provide multi-disciplinary Infection care to the East Cape and beyond.

The successful candidate be responsible for working alongside the Infection Team in Bay of Plenty and the Medical Service in Tairawhiti to establish the new service.  Whilst they can live in either of the two districts there will be time spent in each.  Transport (flights or road transport if weather necessitates) and accommodation on the second site will be provided.  In addition to in-person onsite work in both districts it is anticipated that there will be service provided by virtual and phone consults. On call work for all sites will be shared across all ID specialists.

In addition, we are enthusiastic about clinical infection-based research and are involved with SNAP and ReMAP-CAP as well as the planning of ROADMAP and other bacteraemia and allergy-based research. We regularly have 4th, 5th and 6th year students from University of Auckland as well as being a popular run for overseas elective studies.
