Our clients in Canada are now considering applications from suitably qualified General Practitioners / Family Medicine Specialists! The well established and large organisation has over 20 clinics in the Greater Toronto area. Their current opportunities are based in Toronto itself at their newest clinic, and these positions will be structured in an FHO practice model.
About the Role
Work hours are full time but the exact pattern can be discussed with the team during the interview process. Income in Canada is on a Fee For Service model, meaning you will be an independent contractor and keep a high amount of all the billings to patients. There is excellent earning potential and the details of the income and how the billings work can be discussed with the team during a virtual interview.
About the FHO Model in Ontario
The Family Health Organization (FHO) in Ontario is a collaborative, comprehensive primary care model where three or more physicians practice together, receiving a blended capitation payment for patients they roster. Recent updates, such as the FHO+ model, aim to enhance comprehensive care and physician retention by introducing hourly time-based payments for specific tasks, improving after-hours compensation, and eliminating penalties for patients receiving care outside the FHO group.
How the FHO Model Works
Family physicians receive a fixed monthly payment per patient enrolled in their FHO, encouraging comprehensive patient management and continuity of care.
At least three physicians practice together, providing a comprehensive range of primary care services.
Physicians maintain a roster of patients for whom they provide care, aiming for an average of no more than 2400 patients per physician.
Key Features and Recent Updates (FHO+)
A significant change is the introduction of an hourly pay rate for direct and indirect care, including administrative tasks, with a daily maximum.
The FHO+ model removes financial penalties that were previously imposed when patients sought care from physicians outside the FHO group.
There are increased after-hours premiums and a higher "shadow billing" rate for services performed within the practice, allowing physicians to be better compensated for their work.

The FHO+ model is designed to incentivize physicians to provide comprehensive primary care services and to attract more doctors to the field.
- Enhanced Support Programs:
The model includes enhancements to the Group Management Leadership Program (GMLP) and provides increased patient attachment bonuses, aiming to improve physician well-being and reduce burnout.

Requirements
Applications can only be considered from doctors who completed their GP / Family Medicine training in either the UK (with CCT and MRCGP), Ireland (with MICGP) United States (with ABFM) or Australasia (with FRACGP)
