The Role
The Health Service delivers care across a large and diverse region, including Bundaberg, Fraser Coast, and North Burnett. Services include medical, surgical, emergency, obstetrics, paediatrics, mental health, and specialist outpatient care, with a strong focus on care, connection, and compassion. In this role, you will provide comprehensive Obstetrics and Gynaecology services across Hervey Bay and Maryborough Hospitals, with potential opportunities across Bundaberg.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Delivering high-quality care across inpatient, outpatient, theatre, and emergency settings
- Performing advanced procedures, including laparoscopic and vaginal reconstructive surgery
- Participating in on-call and after-hours rosters
- Supporting outreach services across the region
- Supervising and teaching junior doctors, trainees, and medical students
- Contributing to clinical governance, audit, and quality improvement initiatives
Requirements
- Hold registration (or be eligible for registration) with the Medical Board of Australia as a Consultant in Obstetrics & Gynaecology
- Be a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (FRANZCOG), or an overseas-trained specialist with equivalent qualifications (UK, Ireland, Canada, USA, or New Zealand)
- Experience across the full scope of Obstetrics & Gynaecology, including surgical capability
- Commitment to teaching, supervision, and multidisciplinary teamwork
- Willingness to contribute to outreach and regional service delivery
Expedited Pathway
- Good news for UK & Irish specialists – the Medical Board of Australia has introduced an expedited pathway to specialist registration in Obstetrics & Gynaecology (no college assessment required) for doctors with:
- MRCOG (2007 onward) plus UK CCT, or
- MRCPI (2010 onward) plus CSCST (Ireland)
