The Role
Bundaberg Hospital are seeking an experienced Intellectual and Developmental Disability Psychiatrist to
- Provide expert Psychiatric care assessment and management of patients with an intellectual disability or on the autism spectrum.
- This role will predominantly be a Consultation Liaison role to community and inpatient teams and may also include a small cohort of direct patient care, as part of an Intellectual and Developmental Disability team.
- Provide day-to-day supervision and training to registrars, junior medical staff and other health care team members.
- Participate in the on-call roster.
Requirements
Applicants should be registered (or eligible for registration) as a specialist with the Medical Board of Australia and be a Fellow of The Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists (FRANZCP) or equivalent as an overseas trained specialist who has completed their training in either the UK, Ireland, Canada, USA (ABPN certified) or New Zealand.
The Medical Board of Australia implemented a new expedited pathway to specialist registration in December 2024, eliminating the need for a specialist assessment with a specialist medical college for those with an accepted qualification in Psychiatry. The only accepted qualifications are MRCPsych and a Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) after 2007. The standard Specialist Pathway or the Accelerated Pathway are still available to those who aren’t eligible for the Expedited specialist pathway.
The Hospital
The Bundaberg Hospital is currently a 158 bed acute health care facility with construction underway for a new hospital with at least 139 new beds, bigger emergency department, new operating theatres and an acute mental health inpatient unit.
The mental health service currently has Inpatient units, a Community Care Unit, a Step Up Step Down sub-acute unit, and an Older Persons Sub-Acute Unit as well as Community Mental Health Centres across the region.
