Are you an accomplished Obstetrics & Gynaecology consultant working in the UK or overseas seeking a new challenge and wishing to work near the countryside of Scotland then look no further!!
A great opportunity has arisen for a Consultant in Obstetrics & Gynaecology to join a small but punchy hospital group in a beautiful region of South West Scotland.
The successful candidate will join a team which currently comprises of seven Consultants, four Speciality Doctors, three Specialty Trainee Doctors & Specialist Nurses who provide a range of specialist services and excellent educational opportunities in a beautiful area of south west Scotland.
Post holders will be working on a non-resident on-call rota and will be expected to undertake a mixture of general gynaecology and obstetric duties. Each post-holder will be encouraged to bring or develop areas of special interest to compliment the strengths within the department.
Department information
- Department provides a wide range of Obstetric and Gynaecological services.
- There is scope for appointees to become involved with existing special interest areas or to develop a further special interest.
- It is fully equipped for minimal access Gynaecological surgery. A full range of ultrasound scanning equipment is available.
- The women’s outpatients department currently provides the base for all Antenatal and gynaecological out-patients and for patients having medical management of miscarriage and medical termination of pregnancy.
- The Department also admits to a surgical ward, Day Surgery and the 23 Hour Unit. The main theatre suite is used for all gynaecological surgery. Gynaecological in-patients are cared for in a surgical ward where gynaecology emergencies are also seen in a Gynaecology assessment area.
- The Maternity Wing has six LDRP (labour, delivery, recovery, post-partum) beds in its delivery suite. There is a dedicated Obstetric theatre and recovery facility. The unit also has 12 beds in its maternity suite, to provide ante-natal and post-natal in-patient care.
- The annual delivery rate is just below 1200.

- This District hospital and Mental Health hospital based in South West Scotland with a population of around 150,000 residents is purpose-built to suit the needs of the staff and patients and is one of the only NHS hospitals in the UK to have all single en-suite rooms which has seen an increase in recovery time!
- The education centre is one of the centres to be fully refurbished recently and includes a clinical skills and observation /control room.

Essential criteria
- MRCOG/FRCOG or equivalent
- Required to be on the GMC Specialist Register and will hold a CCT or be within 6 months of obtaining the certificate
- be an established Consultant, preferably with NHS, Australian or European experience.
Desirable Criteria
- Specialist training in Endometriosis and pelvic pain
- Specialist training in fetal ultrasound scanning
- Evidence of introducing innovation to a gynaecological surgical service
