Opportunity:

Working as a Consultant in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry within the HSE (Ireland's public health system), you'll provide high-quality care to patients in this leading health service in County Monaghan.

The HSE West and North West region provides Community Healthcare and acute services to the West and North West of Ireland - Counties Galway, Mayo, Roscommon, Sligo, Leitrim, West Cavan and Donegal with a focus on keeping you well so that you can continue to live at home or close to home through our health promotion, disease screening, diagnosis, treatment and rehabilitation programs. 

Where possible, the post holder will participate with academic and clinical colleagues to enhance the hospital's research activities within the research governance framework.

This appointment will be to Cavan/Monaghan Mental Health Services under the Public Only Consultant Contract 2023 on a full-time basis of 37 hours per week. The post is based in Monaghan Town.

This role is not a substantive post but will be a short contract of 6 months with a view of going permanent.

Duties of the appointed Consultant?

  • To provide specialist assessment, diagnostic formulation and treatment of mental illnesses and/or mental disorders in individuals under the age of 18 years in accordance with the National Standardised Operating Procedure for CAMHS for subsequent national policies, procedures and /or guidelines.
  • To triage all referrals to CAMHS service in conjunction with other members of the multi-disciplinary team.
  • To maintain appropriate and contemporaneous medical records of all clinical contacts.
  • To provide prompt notification to the Executive Clinical Director and the Mental Health Commission of serious untoward incidents in accordance with the relevant regulations.

Essential Criteria

  • Registration as a specialist in the Specialist Division of the Register of Medical Practitioners maintained by the Medical Council in Ireland in the speciality of CAMHS Psychiatry or be eligible to obtain specialist registration.
  • Or must be on or working towards Specialist Registration of the IMC
