About the Job

Deliver Hospital-Level Care in the Community  -  and Experience a Lifestyle Like No Other!

Looking to step into a role where you can truly make an impact - delivering acute care while helping patients remain in their own homes?

Head Medical is seeking experienced clinicians to join a newly developed 24/7 Hospital in the Home (HITH) service in Northern Tasmania. This is a unique opportunity to combine clinical autonomy, innovation, and meaningful patient care in a flexible, community-focused model.

  • Location & Lifestyle – Northern Tasmania: stunning coastlines, national parks, and short commutes
  • Innovative Service Model – Deliver hospital-level care in the community, preventing admissions and supporting early discharge
  • Salary Package – Up to AUD $600,000 per annum (commensurate with experience)

The Role

The HITH North service delivers acute, hospital-level care in patients’ homes, supporting both admission avoidance and early discharge.

You will join a collaborative multidisciplinary team providing high-quality care across Launceston and surrounding communities.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Managing acute and chronic conditions in community settings
  • Delivering rapid interventions to prevent hospital admissions
  • Working closely with multidisciplinary teams
  • Supporting service development, teaching, and quality improvement
  • Participating in an on-call and after-hours roster
  • Travelling across Northern Tasmania as required

This is a varied and rewarding role, ideal for doctors who value autonomy, continuity of care, and working beyond traditional hospital settings.

Requirements

To be considered, you must:

  • Hold (or be eligible for) Specialist Registration with the Medical Board of Australia
  • Be a Consultant in a relevant specialty (e.g. General Medicine, Emergency Medicine, or Rural Generalist), or hold an equivalent overseas qualification (CCT UK, CSCST Ireland, ABIM USA, RCPSC Canada, Vocational Registration NZ)
  • Have experience managing acute medical conditions in hospital or community settings
  • Be confident working within a multidisciplinary, community-based model
  • Hold a current driver’s licence (desirable)

Desirable:

  • Fellowship of RACP, ACEM or ACRRM (or equivalent)

The Location

Tasmania offers a lifestyle that is increasingly hard to find - space, community, and balance.

You will enjoy:

  • A relaxed, family-friendly environment with no long commutes
  • Easy access to beaches, national parks, and outdoor living
  • A thriving food and wine scene
  • A strong sense of community and connection with patients
