Head Medical are seeking an experienced Gastroenterologist to join a supportive team and lead the development of regional gastroenterology services. This is a great opportunity to provide high-quality care in a forward-thinking, patient-focused environment across Fraser Coast, including Hervey Bay and Maryborough.
The Role
Wide Bay Hospital and Health Service provides comprehensive health care across the North Burnett, Bundaberg, Fraser Coast, and part of Gladstone regions. The service includes:
- Inpatient and outpatient medical and surgical services
- Emergency, critical care, obstetrics, paediatrics, and specialist outpatient clinics
- Mental health and clinical support services
The gastroenterology service is supported by specialist nurses, administrative staff, and a high-performing multidisciplinary team. Telehealth links to tertiary gastroenterology services in Metro North HHS ensure access to broader expertise.
You will provide expert clinical care across inpatient, outpatient, and procedural gastroenterology, including endoscopy services, ward consultations, and telehealth support.
This role offers:
- Leadership opportunities – provide supervision, teaching, and mentoring to doctors in training, registrars, and interns.
- Clinical scope – manage general gastroenterology patients, with opportunities to develop subspecialty interests such as hepatology or inflammatory bowel disease.
- Service development – contribute to growing and shaping gastroenterology services across the Wide Bay region.
- Private practice potential – optional participation in private practice at St Stephens Private Hospital, Hervey Bay, complementing public sector work.
Requirements
- Hold Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (FRACP) or an equivalent overseas specialist qualification (CCT UK, CSCST -Ireland, ABIM - USA, RCPSC – Canada, Vocational Registration - NZ)
- Specialist registration or eligibility with AHPRA
- Experience providing high-quality inpatient and outpatient gastroenterology care
- Commitment to teaching, supervision, and professional development
