I have just met with a service in Sydney who expressed their intention to hire 3-4 Consultant Psychiatrists. It is expected the formal recruitment process will begin in early 2019 however they are happy for me to discuss their service with interested psychiatrists and compile expressions of interests in preperation for what will be a lengthy process.
The service is located within a busy suburb on the periphery of the Sydney metropolitan region. This means you can choose to live in quieter areas outside of Sydney or live within and commute against traffic. There are excellent and established schools throughout Sydney's suburban rim offering really rich educational choices for all ages and requirements.
The job will be a mix of inpatient, outpatient and community work. You must therefore demonstrate an enthusiasm for each of these contexts. RANZCP requirements mean you will - if not current or close to FRANZCP - have 3 years post specialist training qualification (gained in UK, Ireland, USA, Canada or NZ) , 6 months of camhs in basic or advanced training.
The service has proven to be innovative and has a unique mental health centre designed to give care to emergency mental health patients.
The service has a strong association with Sydney University offering potential academic affiliations for you as well as strong research opportunities.
For a friendly, informal and non-obligatory discussion about this service, the college assessment process as well as what it is like to work and live in Australia, please do contact Alasdair Spinner on +44 (0)131 240 5276 or email al@headmedical.com
I am currently in Australia, back in UK from 7th October 2018.
