An opportunity exists for an experienced Clinical Director (Psychiatrist) to join the Wide Bay Mental Health & Specialised Services at the Bundaberg Hospital.

  • Excellent remuneration package up to AUD$589k dependent upon experience.

The Role
This senior position offers the opportunity to lead clinical excellence across a diverse and growing mental health service. You will guide strategic direction, mentor medical staff, and champion innovation in service delivery—ensuring safe, contemporary, and consumer-focused care for the Wide Bay community.

  • The Clinical Director – Mental Health provides strategic medical and clinical leadership within Mental Health and Specialised Services at Bundaberg Hospital.
  • The role holds overarching responsibility for the delivery of specialist mental health services within the designated area, ensuring the implementation and maintenance of an effective, consultant-led model of care operating seven days per week.
  • The position delivers high-level clinical services within a defined component of the Mental Health Service, in alignment with the broader Clinical Director accountabilities and organisational objectives.

The Bundaberg Hospital is currently a 247 bed acute health care facility providing a wide range of services including a 24 hour emergency department.

The new Bundaberg Hospital will have more than 400 beds, including 320 overnight beds. The hospital will also have a larger emergency department, more operating theatres, and a wider range of outpatient and diagnostic services.

Requirements
Applicants should be registered (or eligible for registration) as a specialist with the Medical Board of Australia and be a Fellow of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists (FRANZCP). Overseas trained specialists may be considered where appropriate and significant progression towards fellowship can be demonstrated.

The Area
The Coral Coast region of Queensland is a 4 hour drive north of Brisbane and its regional centre, Bundaberg, is centred on the picturesque Burnett River. The area is nestled below the Southern Great Barrier Reef and represents an incredible place to lead the life you always wanted to have. It really does provide a platform to enjoy a laid back, easy going subtropical coastal lifestyle that only Queensland can offer. Just 15 minutes drive from the city are the pristine shores of Coral Coast.  Here you can fish, dive, whale and dolphin spot, snorkel the Lady Musgrave and Lady Elliot coral cays or experience the turtle-nesting phenomenon at the Mon Repos Turtle Rookery.
