Palmerston North is a great region that offers an array of sporting activities. We are currently recruiting a Consultant Cardiologist  to join the service at this 350 bed University Teaching Hospital.

  • Modern teaching hospital with links to both Auckland and Otago Medical schools
  • Major University City, centrally located, with easy access to Wellington
  • Huge range of sporting activities nearby to include golfing, skiing, bungee jumping, white water and scenic rafting.

The Role 
You will be based in a 350 bed teaching hospital, in Palmerston North which has a six-bed Coronary Care Unit and dedicated attached cardiac ward.  There are facilities for exercise ECGs, ambulatory monitoring, echo-cardiography (including TOE), diagnostic cardiac angiography, and the insertion and follow-up of permanent pacemakers. There is a well established heart failure service as well as hospital-based cardiac rehabilitation. Your responsibilities will include participation in the Community Cardiology programme which provides specialist cardiologist, physiologist and nursing support to outlying areas of the MidCentral region. There is also a Cardiology research programme in place.   The hospital is a well respected, modern teaching hospital, with links to both Auckland and Otago medical schools.

The Location 
Palmerston North is a major University City with all the amenities you might expect, and is centrally located, at the hub of key routes to the ski fields, countryside, East and West Coast, wineries and rivers all of which are reachable in less than two hours. You are also around 2 hours drive from the capital city of Wellington. In Palmerston North itself there are always a huge range of sporting activities, sporting events on offer and there are a number of annual events and festivals. A thriving musical scene with many national and international acts touring through the town, as well as there being many local acts performing regularly. There are also theatres and a thriving restaurant and wine industry.
