After working as an Anaesthetic Consultant in the NHS for several years, I decided I wanted to pursue a different adventure and made the decision to broaden my horizons and look for a job abroad.
I wanted to travel and experience different cultures and so when I was emailed by Head Medical about a position in Abu Dhabi, my interest was piqued. As soon as I responded to the email, the team at Head Medical, comprising Carol Mercer and Carol Horan, was fantastic. They organised an interview for me within a couple of days and kept in daily contact thereafter. I was offered, and accepted, the job following the interview and so the process of medical licensing began. Carol and Carol were incredibly helpful in guiding me through this process, keeping me informed of what was needed and how long it was likely to take to process the various documents. I felt that, throughout the process, they were on ‘my team’ and had my interests at heart. They helped me to negotiate a start date for my contract, and as the time came closer and my visa was still not through, they ensured that my employers would honour my contract start date regardless and begin paying my salary! As it was, all the documents were processed in the nick of time but I never felt stressed about it because of the support they gave me.
It is quite tricky to glean information about what it is really like to live and work in Abu Dhabi and so coming here was a bit of a leap of faith, but so far I am loving it! The city is spectacular, the weather amazing and the people I am meeting are interesting, welcoming and very friendly. When it comes to my next move, I will certainly go back to Head Medical, and would (and have!) recommend them to others unreservedly.
