As a General Anaesthetist you will be responsible for the provision of quality cost efficient anaesthesia, preadmission review and acute pain services care and clinical consultative services within the Toowoomba Hospital.
The Darling Downs Hospital and Health Service, of which Toowoomba Hospital is the major hospital with over 320 beds, delivers clinical services to a regional population of approximately 300,000. Spanning 90,000 square kilometres, the catchment area includes both large and small rural community settings and the Hospital is the major regional centre.
There are eight operating theatres, 2000 deliveries per annum, high dependency and intensive care while the Department of Anaesthesia’s current medical establishment is 22 specialists, including the Director, Visiting Medical Specialist, 11 Registrars / PHO/JCCA trainee and 2 Residents.
The Department is accredited for training of registrars with the Australian and New Zealand College of Anaesthetists. Medical students from the Rural Clinical School, UQ rotate through the Department of Anaesthesia.
There is a strong commitment to medical education and continuing professional development, and the Hospital and Health Service has a major teaching role, with active clinical training programmes in place at both undergraduate and postgraduate level for the multidisciplinary healthcare team.
Applicants should be registered (or eligible for registration) as a specialist with the Medical Board of Australia and be a Fellow of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Anaesthetists (FANZCA) or equivalent as an overseas trained specialist who has completed their training in either the UK, Ireland, Canada, USA or New Zealand.
