The Role
The new Secure Mental Health Rehabilitation Unit (SMHRU) will open on the Gold Coast in February 2025. The 40-bed SMHRU will provide world class, compassionate, person centred mental healthcare that fosters recovery of consumers, families and carers for those consumers with complex mental health and addiction issues

You will provide clinical specialist support to the Secure Mental Health Rehabilitation Unit, making a substantial contribution to the development of a culture of medical education and safe, effective patient centred clinical practice.

  • Assume clinical responsibility for the overall clinical care to consumers of your work unit.
  • Ensure that consumers entering the service have access to consultant opinion/input from the onset of treatment, and that consumers with complex needs or high risk are reviewed by a consultant as soon as possible after such a risk emerges.
  • Participation in Grand Rounds and Journal Clubs education training sessions and other service-wide education programs and provide education in their areas of specialty or interest.
  • Participate in the Electroconvulsive Therapy (ECT) roster covering both Gold Coast University Hospital and Robina Hospital as needed.

Requirements
Applicants should be registered (or eligible for registration) as a specialist with the Medical Board of Australia and be a Fellow of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists (FRANZCP) or equivalent as an overseas trained specialist who has completed their training in either the UK, Ireland, Canada, USA (ABPN certified) or New Zealand.

  • 3 years Consultant/Specialist level work experience.
  • A minimum of 6 months in a formal training post in Child and Adolescent psychiatry in your basic or advanced training (if not FRANZCP).
  • Experience in a multidisciplinary team context.

The recently upgraded national highway ensures the two cities are connected via a short commute of one hour by car. The Gold Coast is also a gateway to other Australian and international destinations with its own airport.
