This is an opportunity to develop your clinical skills within a supportive regional hospital, gaining broad experience across adult medicine while working alongside experienced senior clinicians and a multidisciplinary team.
- Broad General Medicine experience – work within a busy regional service caring for a varied adult medical caseload and developing your clinical skills across a range of presentations.
- Excellent learning environment – Rotorua Hospital is the primary RMO training site for the Lakes region, with hands-on learning, formal teaching, mentorship, and support from experienced senior staff.
- Work within a well-supported hospital – access to a wide range of specialist services including Cardiology, Gastroenterology, Infectious Diseases, Oncology, Renal, Intensive Care and Emergency Medicine.
- 12-month contract with a salary of NZD $106,672 – $133,842, depending on experience.
- Live and work in Rotorua – combine valuable clinical experience with an incredible outdoor lifestyle, from mountain biking and hiking to lakes, forests and geothermal landscapes.
The Role
You will join the General Medicine service at Rotorua Hospital, a 233-bed secondary hospital providing a wide range of medical and surgical services to the region. The hospital is the primary training site for Resident Medical Officers in the region. The General Medicine environment provides exposure to a broad range of adult medical presentations, making this an excellent opportunity for post-foundation doctors looking to strengthen their experience in General Internal Medicine.
You'll work as part of a multidisciplinary team alongside experienced senior medical staff, registrars, nursing colleagues, and allied health professionals. Rotorua Hospital provides access to a broad range of specialist services, including Cardiology, Gastroenterology, Infectious Diseases, Oncology, Diabetes, Renal services, and Intensive Care, allowing patients with complex and multi-system conditions to be managed within a comprehensive regional hospital.
The Hospital places a strong emphasis on development, with hands-on learning, formal teaching, mentorship, and Grand Rounds held weekly. Gain diverse clinical exposure while developing their understanding of Māori health and caring for a multicultural community.
