In this role you would provide regional acute, elective and outpatient specialist OMS services whilst working within a dedicated team. The acute work is heavily weighted towards facial trauma and odontogenic infections. Elective work includes dento-alveolar, TMJ, orthognathic and benign pathology. The OMS service works closely with the Hospital and Specialist Dentistry service and their sub-specialities including oral medicine, restorative prosthodontics, orthodontists and paediatric dentistry. The successful candidate will share after hours and weekend on-call work – on a roster basis, for the 24/7 service.

The current OMS team consists of 7 OMS surgeons, 3 dual-qualified College trainee registrars, 1 dual-qualified non-training registrar, 1 dental registrar, 1 dental house officer and 1 medical house officer. Auckland is a training centre in OMS surgery, accredited by the Royal Australasian College of Dental Surgeons (RACDS). You would have the opportunity to participate in registrar training.

This is a permanent position, which is primarily based primarily at one major hospital, with some sessions at the Clinical Centre and another major hospital in Auckland when required. Several of our incumbent OMS surgeons work part time in private practice. There are opportunities, in Auckland for the successful candidate to do likewise.
