Medical Oncologist
The Regional Cancer Treatment Service at the facility provides medical oncology, radiation oncology and clinical haematology services funded by multiple Health Boards, for their communities.
We are seeking to appoint an additional Medical Oncologist for the Regional Cancer Treatment Service. This is a permanent fulltime at the main hospital for the region.
Applicants for this position must be Fellows of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians in Medical Oncology or equivalent and hold, or be eligible for, vocational registration with the New Zealand Medical Council. Applicants must also have demonstrated clinical skills and the ability to work effectively within the multi-disciplinary team.
The service is predominantly a clinical service having facilities for inpatient and outpatient chemotherapy management and performing a number of high dose chemotherapy with PBSCR procedures each year. However the department does maintain an active clinical research portfolio, and possibilities exist for linkages with Massey University for pre-clinical research.
The service is also an approved FRACP training centre and undertakes active post graduate teaching at House Officer, Senior House Officer and Registrar level.
The organisation employs more than 2500 staff at multiple districts.
The hospital is a 350 bed secondary hospital, which services an urban population of 80,000 and a total population catchment of 168,000. In addition, the hospital is a teaching hospital, and is associated with both Auckland and Otago medical schools.
Palmerston North is a major university city and is at the hub of key routes to the central North Island ski fields, and river adventures. Wellington the capital city, is only a two hour journey by road, as are the wine growing regions of Hawkes Bay and Wairarapa.
