The Opportunity
We have a full time role available – One permanent role for a Paediatric Anaesthetist and Pain Medicine Specialist.
In the Specialist role you will have the opportunity to work within both Acute and Chronic Pain and help shape the structure of the future service. You will be based predominantly at the main children`s Hospital with some sessions at Short Stay Surgical Unit located at the Greenlane site covering paediatric same day surgical procedures.
The Department of Paediatric Anaesthesia is responsible for the management of approximately 11,000 cases per year through 7 operating rooms at the main Hospital plus additional operating room sessions at a separate day surgery facility, Greenlane Surgical Unit (GSU). A further 1,500 patients are anaesthetised for procedures outside the Operating Rooms which include MRI, CT, Cardiac Investigations, radiotherapy and other radiology procedures at various locations.
You will be joining our team of 25 Consultants, 4 Fellows and 7 Registrars at the leading provider of tertiary paediatric care for New Zealand and the South Pacific. Our team incorporates a dedicated Acute and Chronic Pain service and includes subspecialty teams for Cardiac and Transplantation Anaesthesia. In addition, we provide secondary level paediatric care for our local population.
Important Skills
Specialist role - You will be expected to be competent in managing all aspects of Paediatric Anaesthesia, with an interest in Acute and Chronic pain management and preferably have experience working within an integrated Pain Service.
To be successful, you must be registered with the Medical Council of New Zealand and be vocationally registered, or eligible for such registration (Vocational/Locum Tenens). Applicants must be eligible to work in New Zealand. Overseas candidates are welcome to apply.
Other requirements for the role include:
- FANZCA (or equivalent)
- One year post Fellowship training in Paediatric Anaesthesia
- Additional training experience in Pain Medicine - FFPMANZCA or equivalent
