2x Permanent, part-time positions  

0.85 FTE / 34hrs per week

We are seeking two Obstetrician & Gynaecologists to join the team at Te Whatu Ora Te Matau a Māui, Hawke's Bay who shares our values of He kauanuanu – Respect, Ākina – Improvement, Rāranga te tira – Teamwork and Tauwhiro – Care.

Hawkes Bay is a teaching hospital with RANZCOG training accreditation. The maternity service provides care for approximately 2200 births per annum with the support of a level 2+ SCBU we continue to care for women over 28 weeks gestation with babies over 1 kg locally. We are engaged with the Ontrack national research network and have been involved in clinical trials. Along side an established midwifery quality and safety team we strive to continue to improve maternity care.

Successful applicants will also be expected to provide consultant led antenatal, gynaecology and colposcopy clinic services as well as working in the surgical wards, operating theatre, early pregnancy clinic and the emergency department.  There will also be a requirement to provide outlying clinics and support of the Wairoa rural maternity unit.

On Call duties include responsibility for labour and birthing, acute antenatal and gynaecological assessments and admissions and responsibility of all inpatient acute or from elective surgery after hours.

Day to day supervision of junior medical staff is required with registrars and SHOs and final year medical students working within the unit and there is the expectation to pick up a role as supervisor of training for some of these junior doctors.

Hawke’s Bay hospital is a cohesive, dynamic campus located in Hastings.  The women’s health unit has a well-developed cooperative and effective management structure.  The unit enjoys excellent anaesthetic, intensive care and neonatal support. There is a skill mix within the existing consultant group which allows for development of a number of areas of interest within the specialty.

Hawke’s Bay is a beautiful provincial centre on the East Coast of the North Island, NZ with approximately 162,000 population.  It enjoys stunning scenery and a temperate climate with sunny dry summers. The district enjoys exceptional schools, restaurants and wineries and hosts frequent cultural events.  There are unlimited opportunities for outdoor and sporting pursuits.
