Head Medical are pleased to announce that we are now working with St Helena Government to recruit a Senior Nursing Officer for a  6 month locum contract, Starting ASAP. 

** Travel costs covered, pension contribution and expenses payments**

Salary is from £55,000 per annum pro rata

This is an excellent opportunity for remote island experience.

 The island of St Helena is an internally self-governing Overseas Territory of the United Kingdom located in the South Atlantic approximately 4,000 miles from the UK.  The island’s population is around 4,500.

The island offers a unique environment in which to work and live, with a variety of outdoor activities in a beautiful setting. it is safe and welcoming, and there are excellent accommodation options.

Working as a Locum Senior Nursing Officer you will..

  • Provide expert professional advice to the Health Director, Portfolio Director, Chief Secretary and Minister, and engage with Executive and Legislative Councils, Partners and Colleagues across the Public Service to deliver the strategic vision for the Health Directorate.

  • Provide credible, inspirational and highly visible leadership to nursing and midwifery staff across the hospital and community setting.

  • Ensure, in close collaboration with the Chief Medical Officer, that hospital services are operationally ready (Theatres, Emergency Services, Wards, Pre-hospital etc.) at all times.

  • Responsible for the delivery of safe and clinically and cost effective and compassionate care within the service, providing assurance evidence in this regard to the Director of Health.

  • Through performance management and monitoring ensure essential quality standards are achieved and improved. Lead and participate in performance review programmes throughout the clinical areas.

  • Take the lead on defined and time limited projects or work programmes within the Directorate as identified by the Director of Health, to support the delivery of Directorate priorities and nursing and midwifery priorities and objectives.

  • Identify areas that require development and improvement in clinical practice and patient care, providing expert advice for current service provision and future developments.

  • Establish and foster an effective working relationship with colleagues from the multi-disciplinary team across the services in the Hospital, Community and within the wider portfolio. Utilise negotiating and influencing skills to secure and support change and improvement in care and service delivery.

  • Promote staff involvement and engagement within the services by acting as a role model.

  • Ensure systems and processes are in place to monitor and assure the quality of care and patient experience within the Directorate.

  • Develop and implement appropriate policies and service improvements within area of responsibility. Utilise planning and organisational skills to ensure the effective delivery of services.

  • Ensure that care practice is delivered in a manner consistent with the NMC Code of Professional Conduct, the NMC ‘Scope of Professional Practice’ and the directorates approach to the expanded role of the nurse.

  • Develop evidence based resourcing plans for hospital and community, 5-year workforce plans to address any current or future staff or skill gaps, and plans for sustainability for the Nursing and Midwifery workforce.

  • Participate in the Senior Nurse on-call rota.

  • Attend any clinical emergencies and urgent care duties requiring this specialist skillset as may arise from time to time.

To be eligible for this role you must be fully registered with the NMC and have experience working as a Band 7.
