The Department of Medicine manages the needs of Northlands unique demographics and with the recent opening of an innovative Assessment Unit (AU) we are looking for a consultant to join the team. This is a full-time, permanent role based in Whangārei, Northland.
Whangārei has the largest hospital in Northland providing secondary care services, supported by three regional hospitals in Kaitaia; Kawakawa, and Dargaville. Northland covers an area of 12,600 square kilometres with a growing population of more than 190,000. The Department of Medicine provides acute medicine care; as well as outpatient/ non-acute/ elective inpatient care to the Northland community. In-house we cover a range of subspecialties including Cardiology; Renal/ dialysis, Diabetes, Care of the Elderly, Respiratory Medicine, Oncology, Endoscopy, Hepatitis and Nerve Conduction studies.
We are looking for an experienced physician to provide medical services within Northland; support the development of the Assessment Unit, as well as participate in the acute medicine on-call roster alongside the other physicians. Our department has a family feel with a positive culture, although a busy and challenging environment everyone looks after each other and has a real passion for what they do and why they do it.
Ideally we are looking for a specialist dual-trained in general medicine with a sub-specialty interest - we would be more than happy to discuss with any clinicians as to how we can support your subspecialty. We want candidates with a real enthusiasm and patience for teaching; who are team players committed to improving and developing services to meet the population need with a passion for the delivery of equitable healthcare.
