About the Job

Masterton, New Zealand

The Wairarapa region offers a fantastic lifestyle for all. With quality schools, strong community spirit, great beaches and rivers, world class vineyards, mountain ranges and rivers, this is a place you can call home.

The Hospital, based in Masterton, is about an hour and a half from Hutt Hospital and Wellington Hospital. Daily rail services link Wairarapa with the Wellington region, including the International Airport and Inter-Island ferry connections.

Working at Te Whatu Ora Wairarapa you will become part of an enthusiastic, dynamic and committed team of health workers providing a modern and innovative approach to healthcare, with the bonus of a healthy balanced lifestyle and opportunities for professional development.

Te Whatu Ora Wairarapa provides secondary services for a population of approximately 48,800, providing 24-hour acute and elective care in general and orthopaedic surgery, medicine, obstetrics and gynaecology, ophthalmology, psychiatry, and paediatrics. The hospital operates both Public & Private theatre sessions covering General Surgery, Orthopaedics, Urology, Endoscopy, Gynaecology, and Obstetrics, as well as Ophthalmic and ENT.

We are seeking specialist(s) to join our Department of Medicine, currently providing General Internal Medical inpatient and outpatient services plus a range of sub-speciality services to the population of the Wairarapa. An interest in respiratory medicine would be an advantage.

There are full time position and part - time positions available with the on call requirement of 1:6.

You will require a strong commitment to comprehensive care encompassed within General Internal Medicine, including full involvement in the acute roster for admission and ongoing care of undifferentiated acute adult hospital presentations. The opportunity to develop a more specialist interest in a sub speciality of General Medicine would be encouraged. You will be eligible for Vocational Scope Registration with the New Zealand Medical Council. Consideration would be given to appointing a Medical Officer (MOSS) with extensive experience in medicine. A diploma in internal medicine would be an advantage as would experience in supporting an HDU setting.

Te Whatu Ora Wairarapa is working in close partnership with our neighbouring Hospitals, Hutt Valley and Capital & Coast, to ensure a more co-ordinated sub-regional approach to delivering care to our communities. This may mean a change in the way that various services are delivered to our joint communities. This work is being clinically led and clinicians will have input from the design and consultation phases.

We are committed to clinical excellence in all disciplines; and Senior Medical Staff are encouraged to take part in clinical audits and peer reviews to ensure quality clinical care is provided.

An attractive relocation package including accommodation and travel assistance can be negotiated. Te Whatu Ora Wairarapa also provides ongoing support to staff with further education and learning opportunities.

If you are interested in this position, please apply online and attach an up to date copy of your CV for consideration.
