Our client has embarked on an exciting project and built a brand new medical clinic opening in January 2023. They require family physicians to join the new practice to meet the ever growing need for more family physicians in Belleville, Ontario. Family physicians are required for solo practice in a shared office space at the new medical clinic. Job duties are those typical to primary care physicians to include but not limited to:

Chronic disease management (diabetes, hypertension, respiratory conditions like asthma/COPD, neurological conditions like epilepsy), acute presentations like shortness of breath, chest pain, headaches, infections, eye or ear symptoms, skin lesions, medicals for various situations such as disability insurance, life insurance, work or school medicals, driver's medicals.

The doctors will have an office and 1 exam room. Shared space includes reception, lab, treatment room, staff room, staff washroom and storage.

The Location and Practice:

Belleville has around 50,000 in immediate population. It has beautiful nature and sits near the Bay of Quinte. The town has lots of restaurants and is an affordable place to live. It is only 45 minutes drive from Kingston, a bigger town that hosts Queens university, so one can live in Kingston and commute if looking to live in a bigger town.

The building is a brand new facility, one storey, 3800 sq ft. A pharmacy will occupy 1000 sq ft, and the clinic the remaining 2800 sq ft. It is modern, air conditioned. The exam rooms will have wall mounted diagnostic sets and also patient couches.

You will have the opportunity to join a FHO, which is a stable model of practising with good earning potential. Good collegial support from doctors who have been working in the area for many years. Brand new, modern clinic to work in. Lots of autonomy in designing your practice and determine your working hours. Working in a semi-rural setting offers good quality of life and also an affordable lifestyle, as big towns and cities tend to be expensive.

Number of registered patients:

You pick the size of your practice, ideally 800 patients at a minimum. Ministry of Health has now limited maximum size to 2200.

Are current GP`s fully booked in the area:

Yes, there is a huge demand for GPs that we cannot meet currently. The last family doctor to open an office ran out of roster forms within 2 hours of opening his office. Anyone joining will hit the ground running and have plenty of patients to see.

Current waiting time for patients:

Depends on how quickly you work or how big your practice is. With the owners current practice of 1460 patients, they typically book routine appointments 2 weeks in advance. The owner  does 15 minute appointments and tend to run on time.

Patient numbers:

The target is 88 patient encounters weekly per doctor.

Amount of GP`s joining over time:

We plan to recruit 6 GPs for the planned extension, which should be around 2800 sq ft.

Expected Start Dates:

The first GP will be expected to start around April 2023 / as soon as license and visa process is complete, the remaining 6 can hopefully start in 2 groups of 3, earliest a year from opening the clinic.

Working Hours:

You pick your working hours, but a minimum of 30/week is needed to work full time. Typical work day for family physicians here is between 8am and 6pm, most doctors start at 9am or 10am to 4-6pm. If you are in a FHO or FHT, evening sessions from 5-8 pm, weekdays and day time weekends are required. The number of sessions per doctor depend on the size of the group. Our group does 8 weekday sessions and 1 weekend session every 7 months per doctor.

Percentage of Income:

75% / 25% split, 75% of all billings goes to the Doctors.

Requirements

  • Completed Family Medicine/General Practice residency in Australia, Ireland, UK, Canada or USA.
  • MCCQE 1 completed is preferable, but not required as long as you will work towards completing this within 3 years of taking up the position.
  • Eligibility for licensure with CPSO and CFPC.
  • New graduates welcome.
  • Expected usual primary care procedural skills such as performing pap smears, administering routine immunizations, minor surgery procedures are an asset but not essential.
