ENT SURGEON - SOUTHLAND

About the role

We are looking for experienced Otolaryngologists who are transformational leaders; providing clinical expertise to deliver quality care for our region. Southland is one of the newest hospital's in the South Island of New Zealand, providing modern and easily accessible facilities for staff and patients alone. We are a base hospital covering a wide geographical area therefore creating an enormous scope for variety in the work of a talented professional like you.

In this role, you will assist with the education and supervision of surgical staff and medical students. As the ENT Practitioner on site at Southland, you will be supported by the clinical leader and colleagues from Dunedin Hospital, who are also undertaking clinics at Southland Hospital. You will see the full range of patients in this role and perform a variety of procedures such as endoscopic sinus surgery, middle ear surgery, facial skin cancer surgery and paediatric ENT procedures, all major head and neck surgery is currently carried out at Dunedin.

Located in the lower South Island, Southland offers a wide range of recreational activities. It is home to two of New Zealand's national parks offering opportunities for tramping, internationally acclaimed fishing and a wide range of outdoor pursuits. Four ski fields are within easy driving distance. Recognised as an ideal place to raise a family, Invercargill is a modern city offering access to outstanding leisure pursuits and a caring, safe community. The city also has superb facilities such as the brand new indoor velodrome and sporting complex, excellent schools and an enterprising, innovative tertiary education provider, where free fees exist.

We are affiliated with the University of Otago Medical School and Southland Hospital provides training to registrars, so you'll need to be someone who is enthusiastic about teaching and passing on your knowledge to junior members of staff. You must have completed your specialist training to make you eligible for registration with the Medical Council of New Zealand.
