A new opportunity has arisen for a consultant emergency physician to join the Emergency Department at Palmerston North Hospital.
Palmerston North Hospital is an Australasian Level 4 regional trauma centre with approximately 44,000 adult and paediatric presentations per annum. They are an increasingly busy department that has maintained a 30+% admission rate despite their rising volume. In addition to a robust general medicine service, there is 24/7 access to general surgery, O&G, paediatrics, ENT, ophthalmology, orthopaedics, and ICU. Cardiothoracic, neurosurgery and plastic surgery services are provided by Wellington Hospital.
Joining a team of 9 consultant emergency physicians working 10 hour shifts and averaging one weekend per month, you will supervise and teach 9 senior house officers and 9 registrars.
The department is dedicated to patient-centered care and are looking for emergency physicians who share their team focus and commitment to quality.
Palmerston North (population: urban 80,000, regional 168,000) has a genuine, easygoing vibe. It has all the facilities that you would expect of a city, yet is still compact and easy to navigate. There are plenty of cafes and restaurants, a local airport and a wealth of sporting activities and community festivals if you want to get involved. Living here is very affordable, with quality housing and a reputation for its excellent primary, secondary and tertiary education facilities, there is a lot to offer families of all ages. And the commute to work is circa 10-15 minutes from anywhere in the city.
