The Role and Hospital
The Emergency Department at Launceston Hospital is a 43 bed unit, with an annual attendance of 45,000, a 30-40% admission rate and 20% paediatric caseload. As the referral hospital for the north of Tasmania, with no bypass, the department experiences high acuity and clinical diversity, receiving all types of patients including major trauma. The hospital has all major specialties, including a fully supported ICU with ECMO capability and 24-hour cardiac interventional angiography.
One of four acute hospitals in Tasmania, this 300-bed Hospital is the major referral hospital for the residents of the North and North West of Tasmania, treating over 24,000 inpatients and over 225,000 outpatients annually. In addition, there is a strong emphasis on medical education and due to its accredited teaching hospital status, the hospital also enjoys close links with both the University of Tasmania, as well as the School of Nursing, which is also based here.
Requirements
Applicants should be registered (or eligible for registration) as a specialist with the Medical Board of Australia and be a Fellow of the Australasian College for Emergency Medicine (FACEM) or equivalent as an overseas trained specialist who has completed their training in either the UK, Ireland, Canada, USA (ABEM certified) or New Zealand.
