Head Medical is seeking a Geriatric and Rehabilitation Medicine Consultant to join a well-established, multidisciplinary service in Rockhampton, Central Queensland.

- Purpose-built 16-bed Geriatric & Rehabilitation Unit
- Rockhampton – Central Queensland’s regional hub, close to beaches and outdoor lifestyle, offering a balance of work and life in a welcoming community.
- Manage rehabilitation patients with stroke, traumatic brain injury, orthopaedic, cardio-respiratory, renal, musculoskeletal, amputee, spinal injury, and post-surgical reconditioning cases.
- Attractive salary package - up to $512k AUD ( commensurate with experience)
The Role
Rockhampton Hospital is a 305-bed regional referral centre and the main hospital for Central Queensland, serving a diverse and growing population.
The Geriatric and Rehabilitation Service (GARS) operates from a dedicated 16-bed facility and is known for its collaborative, team-based approach to care. The wider hospital provides a full range of specialist services including medicine, surgery, ICU, oncology, psychiatry, and rehabilitation, with strong links to tertiary centres across Queensland
You will provide specialist care for older patients with complex medical and rehabilitation needs across Rockhampton Hospital and the wider Central Queensland region. The service delivers inpatient, ambulatory, and outreach rehabilitation within a strong multidisciplinary model. Working closely with nursing leadership and allied health teams, you will also contribute to patient flow, acute medical input when required, and ongoing service development. The role includes supervision of junior medical staff, teaching, and participation in quality improvement and clinical governance activities.
Requirements
- Eligibility for registration with the Medical Board of Australia
- Fellowship of the Royal Australian College of Physicians (RACP) Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (FRACP) or equivalent overseas specialist qualifications (e.g. CCT (UK), CSCST (Ireland), ABIM Board Certification (USA), RCPSC (Canada), or Vocational Registration in NZ)
- Experience in rehabilitation and/or geriatric medicine
- Strong clinical leadership and communication skills
- Commitment to multidisciplinary, patient-centred care and teaching
